Specific attention will be paid to the UN Guiding Principles, the UN Global Compact, and other recent initiatives, examples and practice. There is also dedicated to specific themes of pressing value: the protection of human rights defenders working on business-related abuses; the case-law emerging from recent developments; corporate responsibility to respect human rights and the development of legislation on mandatory due diligence; the challenges of intersectionality and in particular the situation of children caught up in the worst forms of child labour. Risk Mitigation in Community Engagement

July 9, 2020

Under the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) in Malaysia, people can travel across states for work and domestic tourism starting from June 10 to August 31. Freelance journalists, media organisations and CSOs will be resuming their work
especially involving field reporting/media coverage and assessments during this period. To prepare for this increase in interstate movement as well as community engagement and interaction in the upcoming months, this topic will be relevant to ensure that journalists do not contribute to further spreading Covid-19 when gathering information from local communities – especially remote and vulnerable groups.

The webinar will feature Redmond “Red” Batario - Security Trainer, a former journalist and currently Executive Director of the Center for Community Journalism in the Philippines and Odina “Dana” Batnag - a journalist, human rights activist and lawyer from the Philippines and will be moderated by Nadiah Rosli from Internews in Malaysia.”

Protecting workers’ rights through the COVID-19 crisis

June 7, 2020

The COVID-19 crisis has disrupted the lives of workers across sectors and geographies. It has put an emphasis on the vulnerability and precariousness of the employment status of some workers and has also exposed, in many cases, the lack of adequate safeguards necessary to protect workers and their rights in times of crisis. During this webinar, we will explore the range of risks different categories of workers have been exposed since the beginning of the pandemic and address how investors can contribute to ensuring jobs, workers and their rights are protected and respected in the midst of the crisis. We will also discuss how these considerations might help anticipate longer-term risks, inform and help shape investor action around job and workers’ protection for the long-term recovery.
